5 good habits: Reading the Bible together
Jacob was a willing volunteer. He sat in front of the whole church, was blindfolded, and had to identify three different cereals that he was fed. He got 1 1/2 out of 3!
Jesus famously said 'human beings cannot live on bread alone, but need every word that God speaks' (Matthew 4:4, NLT).
In other words, the Bible is not a book that we should read, but a meal that Christians need! Through his Word, God feeds us spiritual truth, to keep us going for the day as his followers. We don't save all of our breakfasts for one weekly binge, and similarly, it's great to build reading the Bible into part of our regular daily diet as Christians. When a Christian opens up the Bible, it's not just reading, it's feeding.
Feed on God's word together!
It's great to read the Bible personally, and there are some great resources to help us do that. But if we've got a young family, why not get in the habit of reading the Bible together each day? Find a regular slot that works (breakfast? before bed?), and then read through a Bible story and pray together. Aim for 5 minutes and it will feel sustainable. It will help you and your children to get into the good habit of feeding together on God's Word.
Here are some good Bibles for younger readers. It's great to start from the age of 0!
