Summer reading 2019
Summer is a great time to commit to reading a Christian book- why not pick one of the books below and aim to read it by the start of September?
In August, we’ll also have a few informal ‘book group’ get togethers to chat through a couple of these books over a glass of wine mid-week. Make a note of the dates, and let me know if you’d like to come along!

Length: 130 pages
What it’s about? This book unpacks the heart of the Christian faith through a detailed look at Jesus’ famous parable of the prodigal son.
Why read it? This is one of the best and most engaging explanations of the heart of the good news of Jesus. A brilliant read for anyone. This is my top recommendation this summer.

Length: 180 pages
What’s it about? Christianity is not a series of beliefs, or a moral system. It’s an invitation to an experienced relationship with God: Christians are invited to enjoy God! This brilliant book steps the believer through how we can enjoy a closer relationship with God.
Why read it? It’s easy for Christians to know a lot about God from the Bible, but to struggle to actually enjoy God’s power and love in everyday life. If that’s you, this is the book for you.

Length: 200 pages
What is it about? A thought-provoking account of how one Christian family have sought to keep technology in its place and to cultivate instead a family marked by wisdom and courage, and suggestions for how we can be more wise about technology in family life.
Why read it? I think it’s vital for all Christian parents to think carefully about the role and place of technology in their family life and lives of their children. If you haven’t really done that properly, this is an excellent starting point.

What is it about? Darlene was serving as a missionary in New Guinea when WW2 broke out in the pacific. She recounts the horrors of being a prisoner of war, and the miraculous tales of God’s care and provision in the midst of it all.
Why read it? Christian biographies help us to see the goodness and reality of God worked out in someone else’s experience. This biography will especially help you see God’s hand in the midst of suffering and difficulty.

What is it about? It tells the true story of how a young Dutchman risked his life to bring faith and hope to believers behind the Iron Curtain. Amazing story of courage, faith and God powerfully at work.
Why read it? This is one of the best known Christian biographies of the last 60 years, and for good reason. If you’re new to reading Christian books, this would be a great place to start.
