Who is Trinity at Four for?

No-one likes feeling out of place. I can remember parties where I’ve been the only one to turn up in fancy dress, and parties where I’ve been the only one not to. Both were as embarrassing as each other! One of the fears people have about coming to church is feeling out of place: ‘Am I going to walk in, and be the obvious misfit?’ Much safer not to risk it. We brits tend to be particularly sensitive to this kind of thing.

Which is why it’s important to stress who Trinity at Four is for.

Trinity at Four is a church family for everyone.

  • A church for the broken and struggling

Jesus once famously said, ‘come to me all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11:28). We spend much of lives persuading everyone else that we’re doing just fine. Wonderfully with Jesus, we don’t have to do that, because he came to bring rest for people for whom life is a struggle. Which, if we’re honest, is all of us.

  • A church for every age and background

Someone tentatively coming to our first service in January said ‘I’m not sure if this is really meant for me… I’m not a family’. But church isn’t just for families, it’s for everyone! The apostle Paul famously wrote:

‘There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus’. Galatians 3:28

He highlights some of the main divisions of ancient society: cultural, class and gender. But for those following Jesus, these division no longer define us. Christians are united together through Jesus. And that should make church one of the most diverse places we go each week! Old and young, affluent and struggling, families and singles, all in one family together.

Trinity at Four is not an event for children, or for families with children. We are a church family! Of course we need to be accessible for families and children, and work hard on that. But we also need to be accessible for those without kids and the elderly.

God’s desire is to have an amazing cross-section at church: Families to love and welcome people struggling on their own. Older folk to serve and help young families who are sleep-deprived and feeling the pressure. Young adults to provide godly role models to teenagers who are kicking against their parents. Children to remind us all of the excitement of Jesus, as they discover him for the first time. That’s God’s desire, and at Trinity at Four we aim to reflect it!

  • A church for enquirers

A lot of people have big questions about life, and a curiosity about Jesus, but have been put off church by services that are fairly impenetrable, and have little connection with the day to day realities of life.

It’s our conviction that Jesus is brilliant and relevant news for everyone, whatever religious background or none you have had. So we make it our ambition to talk about Jesus clearly, so that anyone can understand. As the apostle Paul once asked for prayer: “Pray that I may proclaim Jesus clearly, as I should” (Col 4:4).

So who is Trinity at Four for? It’s for everyone. We already have a lovely spread of people coming along, and you won’t feel out of place if you come along too.
