Our story

IMG_0702 (2).jpg

"We began out of a passion to see many more in our town and region encountering the good news of Jesus Christ.

Trinity at Four was founded as a new weekly church congregation in September 2018. We began out of a passion to see many more in our town and region encountering the good news of Jesus Christ. Over our first two years we have steadily out-grown the facilities at Holy Trinity, and so from November 2020 have been meeting at the Christ Church centre, which provides much more space, particularly for our children's groups and activities.

Trinity at Four is a Church of England congregation connected with Holy Trinity Church, with whom we work closely in partnership.

our dna

Just as DNA runs through a whole person, our DNA runs through everything we do as a church.

Dependent Prayer

God is not a set of ideas or a distant reality, but through Jesus invites us to call him ‘Father’. The beating heart of Christian faith and life is a relationship with God our Father, through Jesus, which is made an experienced reality in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. For Christians, prayer is our greatest privilege: the means by which we express and experience a relationship with our Father. It is also our greatest need. As the famous hymn puts it ‘I am weak, but thou art mighty’.

BIBLICAL TEACHING

The guesswork about God is over. Through Jesus, his Son, God has stepped into our world to make himself known. He has given us written testimony to Jesus in the Bible, which Christians through the ages have experienced to be ‘more precious than gold and sweeter than honey’ (Psalm 19:10). That’s because through the Bible, we can get to know God and his plans for our lives and our world. As Jesus said, 'man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’ (Matt. 4:4).

loving family

Church is never understood in the Bible as a building or a meeting, but as a family. Diverse in every way, and yet committed to each other. In a world that feels ever more isolating and lonely, Jesus’ challenging words to his disciples are as true as ever- ‘by this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you love one another’ (John 13:35).

We are evangelical and Anglican and our beliefs are well summarised by the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith and the Thirty-nine articles of the church of England.

our vision

2020-07-12 08.06.20 (1).jpg

“To exalt Jesus as we engage Henley with His good news and equip disciples of every age to follow Him.”

exalt Jesus

“Jesus humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name”

- Philippians 2:8-9

We think Jesus is brilliant. Through his death and resurrection he offers freedom from guilt, fear and death. Just as God has exalted him to the highest place, it’s our great desire that Jesus be exalted in everything: in our own hearts and lives, in our town, in our world. If you don't know much about Jesus, it's our privilege to do what we can to introduce you to the most significant and life changing person you will ever meet.

engage henley

Jesus is the best news in the world, but in every generation and every place, churches are called not just to shout about Jesus, but to engage people with him; to open a dialogue, and interact meaningfully with people’s questions about life and faith. The apostle Paul, one of the Bible writers, famously wrote ‘I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some’ (1 Corinthians 9:22). Our desire is to talk about Jesus in a way that Henley can understand and engage with.

If you have had a negative experience with Christians or church, that saddens us. We promise to take your questions and concerns seriously, and to do what we can to help you discover the 'life in all its fullness' that Jesus promises.

EQUIP DISCIPLES

'"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."’

- Matthew 28:19-20

These parting words from Jesus to his disciples set the primary task for every church. A disciple is not just someone who has ‘signed up’ for Jesus, but one who is learning day by day to shape all of life around Him. Church is God’s way of equipping disciples, however young or old they may be: ‘So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up’ (Ephesians 4:12-13).
